22% gain in retail sales

CHERRY HILL, N.J., May 1, 2008 - Subaru of America, Inc. today reported April sales of 16,771 total units – a record for the month of April. Retail sales were up 22% over the same month in 2007, driven by strong consumer demand.

Both the Forester and Legacy model lines recorded substantial gains over the same period last year. The newly introduced 2009 model year Subaru Forester was up 49 percent while the Subaru Legacy was up 32 percent. Sales of all Subaru model lines were up while Forester and Impreza totals represent records for the month of April.

“I’d like to thank our Subaru Retailers for a record April performance and their fourth month of retail sales growth this year,” said Tim Colbeck, vice president of sales for Subaru of America. “It is nice to see growth in each of our car lines, especially in a tough economy. Our all-new Forester is off to a great start and to add to the excitement it just won a Crossover SUV comparison with its competitors in the June edition of Motor Trend. With these strong products and dealers we are well positioned to continue to build on these successful results.”
